A Resolution to Travel the World

A New Year, filled with new plans
Lugano
Five, four, three, two, one... Happy New Year!! In New York City the new year will be brought in with the dropping of the ball in Times Square while thousands of people party together under a rain of confetti. On the other side of the world, Australia brightens the new year with a huge fireworks display over the Sydney Opera House. In Vienna, Austria many people celebrate New Year's Eve by walking down the New Year's Eve Trail at Stephansplatz. Folks in Edinburgh, Scotland take four days to celebrate New Year's in a festival which includes concerts, street parties and more. Parties at the pyramids draw thousands in Egypt, and fireworks burst brightly above St. Basil Cathedral in Moscow. All over the world fireworks, festivities, and fun draw people out of their homes and into fantastic New Year's celebrations.

Making resolutions is another New Year's tradition celebrated around the globe. People resolve to lose weight, eat healthier, learn a new skill, stop a bad habit, spend more time with family, etc. At Ultimate Globes, we'd like to suggest another great resolution: make travel a priority in 2018.

Why make travel a priority?
First of all, traveling not only takes you to different places in the world, it widens your personal world! When you encounter new cultures and see places you've never seen before, you become more experienced, more knowledgeable, and you can understand more of humanity. For instance, a trip to Costa Rica could offer insight into rain forests, the coffee industry, a different language, the city life of San Josè, and the food culture of Costa Rica.

Second, traveling offers adventure! Say goodbye to the ho-hum everyday life that has been boring the socks off you. Say hello to fun and excitement. Spin a globe and point. Anywhere your finger lands could lead to an exciting adventure. A cruise to Alaska? Keep your eyes peeled for whales! An African safari? Watching lions and giraffes in their natural habitat makes a trip to the local zoo pale in comparison. Going to France? Feel like royalty inside the Palace of Versailles. Wherever you go you will encounter places, people, and things that are different from your hometown. Anything could lead to an excellent adventure!

Third, travel is highly educational. Educate yourself and your family. Why read a boring history textbook about the Battle of Gettysburg when you can experience the Annual Gettysburg Civil War Battle Reenactment in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania? Don't just watch the History Channel! Go to Egypt and see the ancient pyramids for yourself, or explore the Forbidden City in Beijing. We live in a time of global communication, so take advantage of the ease of travel. Explore the places you've always dreamed of seeing! Fourth, but not least, traveling gives you new perspective on yourself. Getting away from your normal routine allows you to think about your life differently. Travel shakes out the cobwebs in your brain; you may find yourself contemplating ideas you never thought about before! This New Year's make a resolution to improve your life with travel, and then make it happen.
